presents an evening of surreal dance with Artist Mark McNamara
and musician Mark Deutsch. Dancers dangle from the ceiling and
steady NYC's hectic pace to a slow latex crawl. The evening
explores beauty, love, and restraint within our limiting

domesticity. Dancers Masanori Asahara, Kelly Buwalda, John

Free jazz, Butoh dance & vibrating sonic
therapy beds encounter mystical bazantar...
Mark Deutsch, JD Parran, Stephen Flinn, Jomon Butoh troupe
Oh my!?...legendary free-jazz reed-man JD Parran—in town from
New York City—and inspiringly provocative percussionist Steve
Flinn will join Maestro Mark Deutsch for an evening of dynamic
musical exploration and be joined in dance by Jomon Butoh in
what could be called ‘a convergence of the devotional & the
avant garde.’ The trio will explore realms of improvisation
where sublime contemplative textures intersect with wild
aleatoric events to create provocative sonic landscapes, as
Jomon Butoh describes a perfect visual compliment with their
broodingly incandescent moves. Jomon Butoh is comprised of
Martha Matsuda, Christina Braun, and Wolfgang Heinle. Listeners
may find themselves compelled to recline on the Seraphi Center’s
‘vibrational beds’ in order to further experience the fractal
dimensions of this performance. JD Parran & Mark Deutsch,
long-time friends through the avant garde jazz scene in New
York, recently released an album together entitled ‘Omegathorp:
Living City,’ which will be available for purchase at the venue.
Sake, wine and other refreshments will be served during this
event. Beverage proceeds will benefit adjustworld.com,
a non-profit organization of chiropractors bringing peace to the
world.

Exotic musical entourage invades Berkeley Art
Center...
Visionary musicians Jaron Lanier, Mike Masley,
and Mark Deutsch will perform unique compositions on rare,
unusual, and one-of-a-kind instruments. A gestalt of
personalities and cultural influences, this is music designed to
awaken the listener's senses to the subtler intricacies of
vibration and sound. Multi-instrumentalist Jaron Lanier makes
the list of 100 most creative people on the planet and is
renowned for his work both as a scientist and musician. A true
renaissance man, he also has one of the world’s largest
collections of rare and exotic instruments. Iconic virtuoso Mike
Masley--aka ‘The Artist General’--developed his amazing
‘bowhammer’ technique for the cymbalom, a 21st century dulcimer,
to further explore its expressive potential. Playing music for
the world, Masley is known for his poetic improvisations that
seem to speak directly to a listener in profound, life-altering
ways. Mark Deutsch has distinguished himself in Western and
Eastern Classical Traditions, as well as Avant-Garde and Jazz
scenes, with his synergy of perfect technique and expressive
ingenuity. Deutsch invented, built, and holds the patent on the
world’s first Bazantar.
Sake, wine and refreshments will be served
during this event.
Proceeds from beverage sales will contribute to funding a
documentary film about the Bazantar.
